About The Southtowns Energy Fair

Background

In 2000, a grass roots organization named Friends & Neighbors Against the Brant Garbage Landfill
(FNABGL) successfully organized the residents of Brant, Evans and surrounding areas to fight off the siting of a 1,000 acre garbage dump landfill in the Town of Brant.

After winning the battle against the landfill, FNABGL's core members continued to hold meetings to discuss environmental issues.

Southtowns Energy Fair

In 2007, Bill Henry Sr., the Energy Chairman for the Town of Brant and member of FNABGL, advocated the first Southtowns Energy Fair. The acronym FNABGL was changed to mean Friends & Neighbors Advocating for Better Green Living. Members of FNABGL remain active in the planning and promoting of the Energy Fair. During the first two years, the Energy Fair was held at the Brant Fire Hall. Needing a larger facility, Brant's neighbor, the Seneca Nation of Indians, offered use of the Gilbert Lay Arena. In 2009, the Southtowns Energy Fair will be held on September 26, 2009 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. FNABGL continues to contribute door prizes and volunteer help for the annual Energy Fair.
